Jeff,
Maximum value for BUFPOOLSIZE is limited to available virtual memory size.
IBM recommends setting it to 10% of physical memory. I have turned
SELFTUNEBUFPOOLSIZE variable on so that if cache hit ratio decreases by 98%
TSM adjusts BUFPOOLSIZE dynamically. This variable is available in TSM 3.7
and up. Did you monitored cache-hit ratio? How much down it went? How much
physical memory your ADSM server has? Did you setup paging space of equal
size?
We are using shark system for database. Basically shark system contains SSA
Arrays in RAID5 configuration. More than that it has cache of 6GB, which
keeps recently used persistent pages in cache and that gives excellent I/O
rate for frequently used files e.g. Database.
Only database access is not a performance bottleneck. Since you are backing
up 300 client on single server, you should consider splitting up ADSM into
multiple TSM servers.

Subject: ADSM server
What database configuration is anyone using for a single ADSM instance that
is handling for than 300 full size clients (not PC size with 1-1000 Gigs per
client and 10,000 to 2,000,000 files per client)? I am currently running
300 clients on one database instance with 2 SSA arrays and I would like to
know if there is an better database disk setup (SAN, EMC, XP512, more disks)
that would give ADSM a faster database.
I am also currently running ADSM 3.1.2.41 with a database buffer pool of 600
Megs. 1 Gig crashes the server with a BUF043 error (in the database buffer
prefetching routines) What is the highest anyone has for 4.1 servers?
What problem have been seen.
