So from your thoughts it seems to me that I cannot recover NT server using Ghost
.
I don't know How Veritas does it ,Nt admins installs NT from Ghost , and
Veritas administrator
overwrites everything that is on NT BOX . (Including winnt.,registry ,boot.ini
etc..) . No registry problems.
We are switching from Veritas to Tivoli .. And NT admins are asking me to
implement ant same method for WinNT DR .

Problem with reinstalling a ghost image is that NT in this ghost image
is installed in the same directory as the one which is on the TSM backup
=> conflicts. That's why the intermediate step of installing NT in a
"temporary" directory is mandatory so you can restore the backed up NT
to its original location without any conflicts between the "running" NT
located in a tmporary location and the "backed up" NT restored to its
original location. Working like this, do not simply restore the registry
oterwize it will scratch the registry of your "temporary" NT but restore
the registry to an alternate location (the one of the restored NT).

Coderelief worked very well for me..
I.e. install NT in junk directory .install tsm client---- restore
----reboot

Now I am trying to recover NT using Norton Ghost.. This will
eliminate the
step to reinstall NT and
TSM client in junk and also save some time ( idea from NT -folks
) .
I tried following :
Install NT from Ghost image .
Connect to TSM - drop down all data .. to NT Box (WINNT .adsm.sys
etc..)
problem : Windows NT gives messages like sharing violation etc..
When I tried to restore registry keys from adsm.sys directory to
/winnt/system32/config.. I am not able to do so as
registry is already in use. If I reboot Nt box ntoskerenl.exe not
found
message ..
what is the solution to this problem or how I can restore registry ..
I used #dsmc regrest entire ..
where does the registry gets restored when you execute this command
-- in
adsm.sys or to original location .. /winnt/system32/config.. ?
