I have a 3575-L32 with 6 C-XL tape drives. If you have the C-XL drives then you can
use the C-XL tapes (Red tab) intermixed with Blue and Green tabs. We have both Red &
Blue with no problem. The EST. Capacity has no effect on how much data is placed on
tape. Tape always writes till it reaches EOT and capacity of THAT tape is then
updated to how much was actually placed on that tape.

Hi all,

we have a 3575 library where only a few scratchtapes are left. Checking out
tapes
from a longtime archive or moving clients to an other server is not possible.
The
library is completely filled with 5 GB Magstar B-Format tapes.
To gain more space i now want to checkout scratchtapes and replace them by
7 GB Magstar C-Format XL tapes. And that every time an old 5 GB tape becomes
a scratchtape.
Is it possible to mix different tapes in one library? Do i have to create a new
device
class for the new tapes or is it enough to leave the Est./Max capacity option
open
in the old device class? Does setting this option to 5 GB mean that a 7 GB tape
will
only be filled up to 5 GB?

Thanks for your advice,
Gisbert Schneider
