Howdy Shekhar... You may or may not need to take action when you see this
message. Check to see if the retention attributes for the default management
class within your domain are retaining the information adequately. In other
words:
#q pol UNIX (((tells you what the default management class in your
policydomain "UNIX" is)))
It would appear you removed the management class associated with some backups
(and possibly archives). Check the copy groups associated with the default
management class you discovered in the previous step.
#q co UNIX active <management_class> f=d (((this will tell you the retention
characteristics for this copygroup)))
The characteristics of the backup copy group associated with your default
management class for the UNIX policydomain now are controlling how long the
backup will be retained.
NOW.... if you no longer have a default management class, there is a safety net
in the characteristics of your domain called
"grace periods". Do a:
#q domain UNIX f=d (((two of the lines will read as below with the
numeric values varying)))
Backup Retention (Grace Period): 32
Archive Retention (Grace Period): 400
The grace periods become the length of time your backup is retained... If you
have no default management class within the
UNIX domain, go ahead and build a management class. Build both backup and
archive copy groups to support this
management class and then make it your default management class. This gets a tad
detailed, as this can't be done on the
active policy set... it must be done on a temp policyset which is activated once
you get it all put together. Let me know if you
need help doing this....
