Try not using the -w command this could be causing the long restore time...
try using
onbar -b -l0 and when it restores it will restore individual tablespaces
that it wrote to multiple tapes.. multi streaming versus single streaming.

Thanks
Marc

Subject: Re: Informix ON-Bar restoration performance problem

Hi,

normaly you schedule a backup with multiple paralllel running processes.
But for the restore often these processes run sequential, because the
backups are colloacted on a few tapes. The processes can not read parallel
from tape. So try to desperse your backups on more tapes. (To investigate
this ask your ADSM-ADmin to do several "q sess f=d" cmds, here you will see
sessions waiting for a tape which ois already allocated to an other
session.)

An other reason are the logs, depending on the amount of logs you have to
roll forward, this can take an astonishing time.

Hi

We are using Informix 7.24.UC3 with Tivoli storage Manager on AIX 4.3.3. My
problem is about Database restoration.
I take complete databse backup by using onbar -b -w -L 0 command. For 194
GB
Database, system takes 3 hours and 30 min. But when I tried to restore same
backup using onbar -r -w -p, it takes around 26 Hours.

The hardware setup is as follows:-

RS/6000 H70 with 1.5 GB main memory, 2 SSA Advanced RAID controller
connected to SSA cabinet having 16 disks each of 36 GB. The 2 SSA
controllers have 4 SSA loops with 4 disks per loop and each loop is
configured as RAID 0.
The tape drive 3590 E11 is exclusively connected Fast / Wide SCSI
controller
on H70.

The relevant contents of onconfig file are as follows:-

BAR_MAX_BACKUP 6
BAR_RETRY 1
BAR_NB_XPORT_COUNT 10
BAR_XFER_BUF_SIZE 4
BAR_BSALIB_PATH=/usr/tivoli/tsm/client/informix/bin/bsashr10.o

Can anyone have any helpful OS/Informix/Hardware level hints to reduce the
restoration time ?

Pls feel free to contact me in case of any doubt.
