Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Apparently library sharing is not very
well understood or documented, even by Tivoli support. The solution turns
out to be quite simple though. Just do a bulk checkin of the library clients
tapes from the library manager. This will check the tapes in a private and
assign the library manager as the owner. Once you've checked in all of your
tapes, simply run an audit of the library from the library client. Note,
this will not really do an audit of the library but it will sync the
database for the library with the library clients database which assigns the
proper ownership to the volumes. I'm not sure why Tivoli makes you take this
extra step when it would be so much cleaner to assign ownership correctly at
checkin, but they say that is how the product is designed to operate. Thanks
again.

Subject: Checkin on shared SCSI Library in SAN

How can I checkin a large number of tapes to my shared SCSI library when it
is a shared library? CHECKIN LIBV SEARCH=BULK STATUS=PRI CHECKL=B
OWNER=servername returns an error saying that this option is not supported
on SCSI libraries. I've got two distinct sets of active tapes that need to
get checked in and assigned to the proper TSM server.

TIA
