Questions again...
I have Notes people who don't want to use the Notes and Domino agents to
backup their files. Why? They say they don't like it. So who am I to tell
them they have to use it, I don't care.
Now the other day one of the databases went down and it had to be restored
to a nightly from the previous night. Which means, yes, they lost all the
work that had been done the past 12 hours or so. So now they want me to set
up an hourly schedule that backs up this database. Why? I wish I knew enough
about Notes to say it's because they are not doing their job but I can't.
And maybe I would be wrong too, I don't know.
My opinion is that this is ridiculous to say the least and some people would
disagree with me. So what can they do to fix this problem so I don't have to
create this schedule? Since they aren't using the agent the database is
open, and we all know it's possible the backup is no good anyway. The
database is constantly open so I wonder what good it would be to do this.
Maybe someone can tell me if the Notes/Domino agent closes or locks the
database whenever the backup runs. Would this hinder their operations during
the day when the backup kicks off.
My personal opinion, everyone has the same problem as they do, they work all
day and a backup kicks off 24 hours from the last one. If something happens
during that 24 hours and their file gets corrupt then they've lost their
work, simple as that. Why should this kind of process be set in motion for
one, before you know it everyone in the whole company will be wanting hourly
backups. The network will be so bogged down none of us will be able to
work.....
Does anyone else have this situation? Can the Notes people keep any kind of
transaction type logs to help their own situation? Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
