I bought a new AMD Ryzen recently that had a similar issue booting from USB. Turns out, the USB isn't supported by the 9front kernel, so it dies trying to boot from USB. PXE booting works fine.
I did a video mentioning it, but haven't had time or motivation to dig into it. https://youtu.be/6GrhwN7Fsgw I just wanted to use it as a cpu server, so the lack of USB isn't a pressing issue, and PXE works fine.
