Did you bind '#l1' first?

Here's what works for me:

term% bind -a '#l1' /net
term% aux/wpa -2p -s 1d2e12-5GHz /net/ether1

term% ip/ipconfig ether /net/ether1
term% cat /net/ipselftab
term% ip/ping 9p.io

...
