You can also poke around ebay looking for 12VDC->{5,6}VDC switching power
supplies. I have a couple of those I use to power USB hubs and some 6V gear
(clock radios and such) from the boat's 12VDC supply. It's all gear out of
China/Hong Kong/ Singapore; the quality seems to be reasonable, and the prices
and shipping times are good (< 2 weeks to Canada). Email me if you want
details about the exact gear I bought.
