I merely suggest GRUB because it seems like most of the time, if I can get through 9load, I can boot the system OK, but sometimes 9load won't work on such-and-such hardware and I have to resort to PXE booting, putting the disk in another system to install, whatever. I've found GRUB on a bootable USB stick to be a pretty reliable way to drop you into a 32-bit kernel.
