this is incorrect. the unified athens/clarke county government covers the smallest county in georgia. there is no point in athens that is much more than 15 km from downtown. further, i have never heard anyone complain that the police make traffic stops for no reason. mind the rules of the road, and you'll be fine. that being said, there's a nice shuttle that is cheeper and easier than driving or renting a car. that's how i go. - erik
