I'm sorry that didn't help. My intel DH61DL motherboard has the same chipset as yours. If I try a usb flash disk in a USB3 port, I can boot Plan 9 from it, but once booted the drive isn't visible.
You might try usb/probe to see if your kernel is able to see the drive at all.
