Weren't there 4k sector disks that mapped the 1st 4k sector to
just the mbr? So the next four 512B sectors got mapped to the
next 4k sector and so on.  As a result your nicely "aligned"
on 4k boundaries IO wouldn't be aligned at all.  Are there
still such disks one should avoid?

it's amazing how simple you life can be if you don't care
about losing data :-) I call it garbage collection! Because
if you really cared you'd have already saved your stuff!
