in concept, bios was a much better idea than either. sadly time marched on and rather than work out what a reasonable 32-bit or 64-bit bios might look like, we got a real second system. i do have plan 9 running on some supposedly-efi-based motherboards from intel. clearly if they really were booting in efi mode, i wouldn't get that far. - erik
