I was thinking of that.  An embedded Linux or Plan 9 device as USB
client, presenting an MSD interface.  It could present a number of
partitions, each with an partition/fs type liked by different OSes.
Whichever partition ends up getting read by the OS selects the fs that
the device serves.

If the device presented a USB network interface, various network servers
could be used... webdav, FTP, etc.  Think NAS-in-your-pocket.
